If you've ever driven past Laguna Town Hall in spring and caught a glimpse of those purple wisteria vines cascading over the pergola — you already know why I love shooting here. This Mediterranean-style setting in the heart of Laguna West is one of the most visually distinctive portrait locations in all of Elk Grove, and spring is when it's absolutely at its peak.
Laguna Town Hall is genuinely unlike anywhere else I shoot in Elk Grove. While most of my locations lean into natural greenery and open fields, this one brings something completely different — architectural character, old-world texture, and a courtyard that feels like it belongs in southern France rather than a Sacramento suburb.
The star of the show is the grand pergola in the courtyard, draped in wisteria vines that burst into cascading purple blooms every spring. It creates a canopy of color and soft filtered light that is simply breathtaking for portrait photography. Families who shoot here in spring consistently get some of the most unique, striking images in their gallery — the kind that stop people mid-scroll.
Beyond the pergola, the surrounding park setting offers a picturesque lake with a fountain, lush landscaping, and open grassy areas that round out the variety of backdrops available in a single session. The rustic brick walls and Mediterranean architectural details also give us options for more styled, editorial-feeling shots that you just can't find at a typical neighborhood park.
This is the location I recommend when a family wants something a little different — something that feels elevated, intentional, and truly one of a kind.
Spring (March – May)
The Prime Season Spring is hands down the best time to shoot at Laguna Town Hall, and it's all because of the wisteria. When those vines bloom — typically peaking in March through April — the pergola transforms into one of the most magical portrait backdrops in Elk Grove. The blooms are lush, fragrant, and absolutely stunning in photos. The soft spring light makes everything glow. If this location is calling your name, spring is the season to book — and I'd encourage you to book early, because these dates go fast.
Fall (October – November)
Fall brings a completely different energy to Laguna Town Hall. The warm tones of the season complement the rustic brick architecture beautifully, and the surrounding park takes on that rich golden quality that makes fall portraits so irresistible. The wisteria won't be in bloom, but the courtyard is still a gorgeous backdrop with its architectural detail and mature landscaping.
Summer (June – August)
Summer sessions here are timed around golden hour, when the light softens and the lake and fountain area catch that warm late-day glow. It's a beautiful, relaxed setting for families who want something a little more intimate and styled than a typical open-field session.
Spring Sessions (Wisteria Season) This is where soft, romantic tones truly shine. Dusty lavender, blush, cream, sage, and soft white all complement the purple wisteria blooms beautifully without competing. Think flowy fabrics, soft layers, and feminine textures — this location rewards an elevated, intentional look.
Fall Sessions Warm, earthy tones work wonderfully against the brick and mature landscaping. Rust, mustard, camel, olive, and deep burgundy all feel right at home here in fall.
Summer Sessions Bright, light colors — soft whites, sky blue, blush, and pale yellow — photograph beautifully in the evening light near the lake and fountain.
For all seasons: Coordinate your family's outfits around one anchor piece rather than matching everyone exactly. Avoid neon colors, large logos, and busy patterns. This location especially rewards thoughtful outfit planning — the setting is elevated, and your outfits should feel like they belong in it.
