Jack Hill Park

Elk Grove Family Portraits at

Real moments. Beautiful light. A park that feels like home.

Jack Hill Park is one of my absolute favorite spots to photograph Elk Grove families — and honestly, it never gets old. With wide open fields, canopy shade trees, a winding creek, and a charming bridge, this 7.5-acre park offers something genuinely different every single season. If you're an Elk Grove family looking for portraits that feel natural and unhurried, this is the place.

Why do I love this location?

Jack Hill Park has a quiet, tucked-away quality that most parks in the Sacramento area just don't have. It sits on a peaceful side street off Waterman Road, which means we're not competing with crowds or traffic noise — just your family, the trees, and good light.
What makes it special for portraits is the variety. In one session, we can move from a sun-dappled open field to the shade of a sprawling tree, then down to the creek bank where the light does something truly magical in the late afternoon. The park borders Laguna Creek on its west side, and that combination of water, native grasses, and mature trees gives us a backdrop that feels lush and lived-in rather than staged.
My personal favorite spot? The open fields framed by the park's large shade trees. There's a softness to the light there — especially in the hour before sunset — that makes every family look like they belong on a magazine cover.

Best Time to Book Your Session Here

Fall (October – November)
Fall is peak season at Jack Hill Park for good reason. The foliage along Laguna Creek turns warm gold and amber, and the whole park takes on a rich, painterly quality. If you've been dreaming of those warm-toned family portraits with leaves and golden light — this is your season.

Spring (March – May)
Spring brings the park back to life with blooming wildflowers, fresh green grass, and soft, even light that's incredibly flattering for families. It's one of the most forgiving seasons to shoot in because the light stays beautiful for longer.

Summer (June – August)
Summer sessions need to be timed right — but when they are, they're stunning. I schedule summer sessions during the golden hour (roughly 1 hour before sunset) when the light turns warm and glowy and the heat of the day has softened. The open fields are gorgeous in that light.

What to Wear

Spring & Summer Sessions: Lean into bright, light colors — soft whites, sky blues, pale yellows, blush, and sage greens all photograph beautifully against the lush greenery and open sky. Think airy, fresh, and coordinated without being too matchy-matchy.

Fall Sessions: Earthy tones are your best friend in fall. Rust, mustard, olive, tan, camel, and warm burgundy all complement the golden foliage perfectly. This is the season to bring out the cozy layers and textures.

For all seasons: Avoid neon colors, large logos, and overly busy patterns. Coordinate your family's outfits around one anchor piece rather than matching everyone exactly — it looks more natural and timeless in photos.
